The 16th century twin-tailed mermaid, Siren, has come a long way from Starbucks' first logo in 1971. Over the years, the brand dropped 'Tea Spices' from their logo, blew up the picture logo and now in 2011, there is no longer an outer ring on the trademark, making it the fourth change since four decades ago.
The slight update isn't for show either, Chief Executive Howard Schultz stated that it allows them to "think beyond" the coffee market. However, like the GAP logo fiasco late last year, there is a quite a substantial backlash going on around the internet.
