The Darby NYC

A restaurant that serves up a Roaring Twenties-style cabaret – just what was needed to spice up the nightlife in NYC’s Meatpacking (MePa) district. Famed for its fashion boutiques and rapper-packed nightclubs, the area had lost some of its pep as a result of the recession. So it’s hats off to The Darby for turning its back on the prevailing gloom and doom and inviting Manhattan to jump up and boogie on the tables once more. The menu offers outstanding American-style food, prepared by two celebrity chefs. The atmosphere is that of a pseudo speakeasy, not dissimilar to Prohibition, with dark wood-clad walls, silver chandeliers and thick red curtains that open to reveal a magician or a lively jazz band. An additional thrill comes from knowing that in a former life this very spot was Tupac Shakur’s favourite hang-out.
