The "Swallow's Nest" Castle on the Aurora cliffs of Cape Ai-Todor

One of Yalta's best-known landmarks, the neo-Gothic castle "Swallow's Nest" was built between 1911 and 1912 in Gaspra (Haspra), above Aurora's Cliff. Designed as a medieval castle by A. Sherwood, it overlooks the Black Sea and is situated near the remains of an ancient Roman fortress (1st to 3rd century AD). The castle survived a heavy earthquake in 1927. A structure with high turrets crowned with crenellated ramparts and pointed gothic pinnacle stands on the very edge of a 40-meter cliff overlooking the sea. The castle is also knows as "The Castle of Love" or "Swallow's Nest". The castle is an architectural symbol of the Crimea.
